About NETRO
Our Mission
We are proud of our commitment to rehome abandoned, surrendered, and stray animals while serving our local community and surrounding areas.
Our volunteers work tirelessly to:
-
Rescue stray and unwanted animals
-
Provide temporary foster homes
-
Ensure proper veterinary care
-
Find safe and loving forever homes
Providing quality care for animals in the Mt. Pleasant municipal shelter and nearby communities is a responsibility we proudly embrace.
Our Beginning
NETRO was founded in 2013 as Titus County Shelter Friends by a group of concerned citizens who recognized an urgent need for change at the Mt. Pleasant, Texas Animal Shelter.
At that time, the number of animals being euthanized at the municipal shelter was extremely high, and our founders were determined to help.
Since 2013, our organization has rescued and helped hundreds of companion animals, giving them the opportunity to find safe, loving homes and a better future.
Today, NETRO continues this mission across Northeast Texas, working with volunteers, fosters, and rescue partners to save as many lives as possible.

Our Evolution
As our organization grew to meet the changing needs of our community and surrounding counties, we realized we had outgrown our original name and mission scope.
Originally founded as Titus County Shelter Friends, our work expanded beyond supporting a single shelter. Over the years, our efforts have grown to include rescue, fostering, transport, and partnerships across Northeast Texas and beyond.
Because of this growth, we adopted a new name that better reflects our impact and mission.
We are now
Northeast Texas Rescue Organization (NETRO)
Powered by Volunteers
Our rescue is 100% volunteer-driven, and our program depends on dedicated individuals who help in many ways, including:
-
Caring for animals at the shelter
-
Transporting animals to veterinary appointments
-
Fostering dogs and cats until adoption
-
Coordinating rescue transports to partner organizations
Every volunteer plays a role in helping us save lives and create brighter futures for animals in need.
Expanding Our Impact
As the number of animals entering the Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter has increased, we have expanded our efforts by partnering with rescue organizations across the country.
Through these partnerships, we are able to transport animals to areas with higher adoption demand, giving more pets the opportunity to find loving homes.
Our work has also helped other shelters across Northeast Texas, supporting the placement of homeless pets beyond our local community.
