Our History

We were established as Titus County Shelter Friends in 2013 by a group of concerned citizens who saw an overwhelming need for improvements at the Mt Pleasant Texas Animal Shelter. The number of animals being euthanized in our local municipal shelter was completely unacceptable. Since 2013, our organization has helped hundreds of companion animals and given them a second chance at life.

We are very proud of our efforts to rehome abandoned, surrendered and stray companion animals and the service we provide to our community and the surrounding area. Currently, our volunteers are involved with providing the needs of stray and unwanted animals and finding them appropriate homes. Some are fostering animals until an adoption occurs. Providing quality care to animals in our local municipal shelter and in other areas has been a major undertaking we’ve proudly accepted .

The number of animals has grown that are taken in by the Mt Pleasant Shelter. Therefore networking with other rescue groups around the country has expanded the sources for adoption.  Other animal shelters in Northeast Texas have benefited from our efforts to place homeless pet as well.

Our program consists of volunteers that help in a variety of ways. Some help at the shelter, carry animals to the vet for care, while others foster animals waiting for adoption, and still others help in transporting animals to the safe haven of our rescue partners.

As we have evolved to meet the changing needs of our community and surrounding counties we have realized we have outgrown our original purpose and mission. Following the many changes over the years we have outgrown our original name.  Titus County Shelter Friends will now be known as Northeast Texas Rescue Organization (NETRO). We are the same group with the same overall goal, save as many lives as we can. We will continue to seek improvements, render aid where needed and educate all who will listen. We are still here, we’re the same, we are NETRO.
